PAWS for People, a nonprofit pet therapy organization, is expanding its pawprint in Newark.

On Nov. 1, the organization will open a new on-site training facility at 703 Dawson Dr. in the Delaware Industrial Park. The 3,200-square-foot building will allow PAWS to offer more on-site training for new puppy owners and prospective pet therapy teams.

Previously, PAWS spent 11 years working out of executive director and founder Lynne Robinson's home in Elkton, Maryland. Over time, PAWS has grown from 21 therapy teams visiting 10 different partner sites to more than 400 teams visiting 140 hospitals, addiction centers, schools and more in Delaware and surrounding states.

On Saturday, the organization will hold its biggest fundraiser of the year, the Wag-n-Walk and 5K run at Delcastle Recreational Park in Wilmington. More than 200 people (and some of their well-behaved furry sidekicks) have registered. A shorter, one-mile walk is another option. The event also features more than 40 vendors, doggie games and contests.

On-site registration is available beginning at 8 a.m. (5K run/walk) and 10 a.m. (1-mile doggie walk). The event ends at 1 p.m. Dress as a superhero and be entered to win a prize. Visit www.pawsforpeople.org or call 302-351-5622 for more information.
