Red was found on a street in Texas when he was a young pup by my son. The first three years of Red’s life was spent in a rural setting where he enjoyed romping around the countryside with his dog friends. By his very nature and breed, Red, a Duck Tolling Retriever, was always on the lookout for something to chase after (deer, wild turkeys, rabbits, etc.).

Three years ago my son returned to New Jersey with Red for an extended visit. During Red’s stay he completely bonded with me.  When it was time to go back to Texas, Red demonstrated to my son that he didn’t want to leave New Jersey and me! And that is how a Texan dog became a Jersey dog and became my dog.

Red has two canine friends, Lucy and Morgan, who he loves to walk with even though he is now leash trained. No more running free for Red, which mean the deer, rabbits, and turkeys in our neighborhood are very happy. There are plenty of children in our development and they come to greet Red when he is out walking. One boy even gave him a ride in his motorized car.

Red, now six years old, is still a perky pup and gets excited when it’s time for a PAWS visit. Once I tie his PAWS for People bandanna around his furry red neck, he can’t wait to get out our back door and into our station wagon for a PAWS visit.
