The PAWS for Reading program in schools and libraries has long been a leader in literacy support. But with stay-at-home orders and physical distancing measures in place during the COVID-19 pandemic, our in-person reading visits at schools and libraries aren’t an option right now. At the same time, we know that this disruption has created an even greater need for literacy support.

Summer Reading Challenge

PAWS for People has worked with our library and school partners to develop a multi-pronged approach to encourage reading, ward off “summer slide,” and have fun along the way.

To join this fun free challenge, register below and pledge to read 20 minutes a day between now and August 31. Once you register, you’ll be directed to program materials including:

  • Summer Challenge Pledge form
  • Bookmark
  • Coloring pages
  • Reading log
  • BINGO card
  • and more throughout the summer!

Read 1000 minutes to win a special reward!

There are many fun ways to log your reading minutes the PAWS for Reading way!

  • Read to your own pet: Dogs, cats, bunnies – as well as goldfish, lizards, hamsters, guinea pigs, birds and other animals –  can be great listeners. Share a good story with your own pet.
  • Read to a stuffed animal: If you don’t have a pet, a favorite teddy bear or other stuffed friend will happily (and quietly!) enjoy your reading.

At the end of summer, scan or take a photo of your reading log and email it to DChristian@PAWSforPeople.org with the subject “PAWS Summer Challenge Log.” Registered participants who hit the magic 1000 minute mark will receive a special reward from PAWS.
